Our
Motto:- You
give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of
yourself that you truly give. Kahlil
Gibran Kids for kids was founded in the
year 1995 by a small group of mothers and their kids with three primary
objectives: -
To
Sensitize children to the, oftentimes harsh,
realities of kids less fortunate than themselves. -
To
Motivate them, with a desire to help and to
create within them an appreciation of all they have been blessed with, along
with changing their mindset from I Want, to I
WANT TO GIVE. -
To
Empower them to make a difference to the
lives of those in need. Since our inception, we have spent
many fun filled hours every year in an excited frenzy of creation, teaching our
children vibrant, beautiful arts and crafts, that we then sell to raise money,
for the Balwadi, a school in the
slum area of Chirag Delhi. The children have sold these
products, successfully through melas at Lajpat Bhavan, and The Shri Ram School.
Proceeds from these sales have been combined with donations to the Kids for Kids
cause, to completely support the running of the Balwadi. Our
Program: - Educating 75 pre schoolers
ranging from 3-5 years in the Balwadi. - Providing these children with
school uniforms and a nutritious lunch every day. - Medical aid for some
inoculations and deworming. - Interaction and bonding of our Kids
with the Balwadi Kids through: -
Visits on festivals with toys and books
new and old -
Visit on Earth Day to plant trees
together -
Organize a picnic and magic shows
for the Balwadi kids Last
year for the first time, we decided to expand our reach beyond the
Balwadi, moved by the fate of our kin in Another issue that we addressed
last year was the HEALTH of the Balwadi kids. In order to facilitate basic
inoculations (which are expensive), the Kids for Kids moms decided to run
workshops for not just their own kids but for all other kids who would pay a
basic minimum, to learn skills like glass painting, landscape tray making, warli,
gift wrapping, candle making etc. The money generated over the summer holidays
was used for inoculations of the little ones at the Balwadi premises, who were
also provided with a special treat of chips and juice afterwards. We as mothers feel very strongly
and deeply that today when the world is on the brink of war and destruction
follows in its wake, how do we continue to instill values of peace, forgiveness,
sharing and caring in our kids? In these kids lies our tomorrow-our future..... To this endeavour, we have
pledged, to continue working as a family and as a team,
and to continue to create happily and productively items for
sale, the proceeds of which
will continue supporting the Balwadi pre schoolers. WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN HANDS WITH
